The significant role of major donors in the growth and evolution of Anatolia College into a pioneering educational institution was acknowledged at a special ceremony held on Friday 3 June 2016. The event honoured the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation and, posthumously, Dimitris Zannas for their outstanding contributions to the non-profit educational organisation. The honorees were presented with the Carl C. Compton award, named after the fifth consecutive President of Anatolia College (1950-1958), a visionary educator and the ultimate personification of the School’s highest ideals.

The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, an organisation with a fine record of social and philanthropic activity to its name, was presented with the award in recognition of its long-term support to Anatolia College. In particular, every year its contribution to the organisation’s Scholarship Programme makes scholarships available to children with limited financial means, offering them access to high-quality education. The Foundation is committed to supporting each scholarship recipient from the first year of junior high school through to graduation from senior high school. In addition, it funds the participation of children of similar socio-economic backgrounds from all over Greece in the Center for Talented Youth at Anatolia College. The award was received by Dr. Petros Kalantzis, President of the Foundation’s Executive Board.  

The event also honoured the late Dimitris Zannas, a prominent lawyer, who served as President of the Museum for the Macedonian Struggle and interim Mayor of Thessaloniki in 1974. Dimitris Zannas, a noble citizen and recipient of awards from the President of the Republic and the State of Israel, was a graduate of the school and later a member of the Board of Trustees (Trustee) of Anatolia College. He served the school with vision, great dedication and diligence, as he did in the case of other institutions in the city (YMCA Thessaloniki, the School for the Blind, etc.) The award was received by his wife Artemis Zanna.
