The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, along with the A.G. Leventis and Onassis Foundations, are taking part as funders in the new programme announced by the Bodossaki Foundation, which pertains to subsidising the costs of patent registrations for researchers and research teams in Greek research centres and universities.

The ultimate aim of the programme is to support innovative research and strengthen the Greek economy, through the creation of innovative businesses that will produce exportable products and services, as well as through the creation of new employment positions.

The programme is addressed to Greek researchers conducting research in Greek Higher Education Institutions (Universities and Technical Educational Institutes – T.E.I.) and public Research Centres. Interested parties are invited to complete and submit an application, a template of which has been uploaded on the website of the Bodossaki Foundation (here). Applications will be assessed by a Selection Committee, which includes acclaimed representatives from the sectors of industry, business, and investments, acclaimed researchers and academics.

Mr. Dimitris Vlastos, President of the Board of Directors to the Bodossaki Foundation, said: “Supporting scientific research and Greek scientists living in and giving to our country is a constant pursuit for the Foundation. Besides, we have repeatedly stressed the importance the Bodossaki Foundation places on the consolidation of collaborations and partnerships for strengthening those sectors that may function as a springboard for development in Greece. Through this new programme, we are creating the conditions that allow four Public Benefit Foundations to work together, once again, in support of a common goal: the promotion of domestic research and innovation, so that it may claim its rightful place in international scientific and business developments”.

Mr. Aristos Doxiadis, a Partner in the Venture Capital firms Openfund and Big Pi Ventures, and member of the Selection Committee, said of the initiative: “The initial funding for patent registrations is absent today from the Greek system for research and innovation, while it is available in many universities and research centres abroad. It is, however, often the first step towards the creation of new products. We hope that the programme will fill that gap, in part, and show the way to other funders, so that supporting the Greek scientific community becomes a common goal”.

The full text of the announcement, the application form and all relevant information about the programme are available on the website of the Bodossaki Foundation.
