This educational activity was carried out by the School4Robots robotics team of the school. The team took part in the National Student Robotics Competition of WRO Hellas on the topic ''Colonisation of Mars''.
The aim of the activity was to apply innovative educational tools and methodologies such as Design Thinking and STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Math) education using science-related topics and to foster a positive stance to that regard. The team’s mission was to create a mockup of a future colony on Mars, involving two robotic automation systems, as well as elements of Engineering, Art and Architecture. The mockup automations have been designed using Scratch programming language; some of the materials in the mockup have been designed using Tinkercad 3D design program and then printed on a Craftbot 3D printer. The prospect of participating in the WRO Hellas National Robotics Competition acted as a strong incentive for the team, as it kept the students’ interest undiminished until the end of the school year and acted as a catalyst in strengthening and reinforcing teamwork and collaboration.
This project was implemented by 20 students from the 5th and 6th grade of primary school, who make up the school’s School4Robots robotics team.
