COLLABORATIVE INITIATIVES

34 projects have been selected to receive grants under the sevent round of the “Points of Support” programme for 2024-2025.

 

The seventh round of the Programme, which started in 2015 and has to date funded a total of 157 projects with more than 104,000 beneficiaries, is a collaborative initiative of the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, the Bodossaki Foundation, the Captain Vassilis & Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation, the A. G. Leventis Foundation, the A.C. Laskaridis Foundation, the Costas M. Lemos Foundation, the Social and Cultural Affairs Welfare Foundation (KIKPE), the Hellenic Initiatve Canada, the Athina I. Martinou Foundation and the Helidoni Foundation. The "Points of Support" Programme has been coordinated by the Bodossaki Foundation since 2022.

The goal of the Programme is, on the one hand, to support original small-scale projects with maximum social impact and, on the other hand, to reinforce the infrastructures of and foster capacity building for Greek civil society organisations with a view to further enhance the development, effectiveness, and sustainability of their work.

The 34 projects that have been selected* - out of a total of 147 applications - will receive funding amounting to ten thousand euro (€10,000) each; the projects, which fall within a wide range of thematic areas identified by the Programme funders, will have a duration of up to 8 months and will be implemented by 41 Civil Society Organisations, 7 of which will participate as partner organisations. In addition, within the framework of the Programme, the selected organisations will take part in free capacity building activities, designed, funded and implemented by Social Dynamo, the NGO hub of the Bodossaki Foundation.

The full list of the organizations selected for funding, categorized by thematic area, follows below:

I. Social Integration of People with Disabilities (John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation)

  1. The Beehive Community Cooperative Enterprise - Creation of an inclusive dance group for deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing high school students and presentation of a performance to the public in Attica
  2. Contemporary Dance Group "Prosxima" - Implementation of movement workshops for people with/without sensory and motor disabilities, students of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of Patras
  3. Technodromo - Implementation of a multisensory theater workshop for people with mental health conditions and intellectual disabilities in a psychosocial rehabilitation unit, including a hands-on workshop on best practices for the unit's staff.
  4. "Job Pairs" Career Opportunities - Professional empowerment program for students with disabilities through job search seminars and individual counseling, along with the creation of materials for employers in Attica
  5. Technology Without Borders NPO - Creation of the first digital (AI-based) blind character on social media to raise public awareness about the daily lives of blind people
  6. ERGO NGO - Creation of educational material to cultivate financial and social skills for students with intellectual disabilities and autism in special vocational schools across the country
  7. Oxygen Cooperative Enterprise - Production of 12 podcast episodes on youth disability in sports, featuring discussions with young athletes with/without disabilities and local government representatives based in Xanthi
  8. Equalact Social - Action for Social Equality of People with Disabilities - Construction of a greenhouse to enhance the inclusion of people with disabilities through employment, skill development, and networking within the local community of Attica

II. Children and Health (Donor: Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation)

  1. Roots Research Center - Training educators in trauma management and Restorative Justice within Attica's school community
  2. Karkinaki – Awareness about childhood and adolescent cancer - Training program for mental health professionals in managing loss in Rare Diseases in Attica, in collaboration with "Life Lessons" NPO
  3. ZOE.S. - Animal-assisted therapy interventions with mediator dogs for unaccompanied children and teenagers in Thessaloniki, in collaboration with EDRA Social Cooperative Activities for Vulnerable Groups

III. Environmental Protection:

a. Protection of Flora and Fauna in the Urban and Peri-urban Environment (Donor: A. G. Leventis Foundation)

  1. Sikinos Association - Creation of a botanical garden and digitization of the herbarium of native flora in Sikinos
  2. "Ehedorou Physis" NPO - Construction of permanent infrastructure in schools for cultivating vegetable gardens and xeriscape gardens in Thessaloniki

b. Protection of Aquatic Ecosystems: Lakes, Rivers and Wetlands (Donor: A.C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation)

  1. "AKTES" Society for the Study of Ancient Coastlines - Systematic recording of submerged formations "beachrocks," with a pilot application on the shores of Argolic Gulf
  2. Hellenic Speleological Federation - Development of a network to record physicochemical parameters in underground rivers (river caves) throughout Greece

c. Protection of Forest and Other Terrestrial Ecosystems (Donor: Costas M. Lemos Foundation)

  1. "Gia ti Fisi" Cooperative Enterprise - Formation, training, and action of a Seed Collector Volunteer Corps for Forest Ecosystems in Symi, Chalki, and Rhodes
  2. Pemptousia Cooperative Enterprise - Citizen training, equipment purchase, and development of a fire protection plan for the forest area of Old Roumata in Chania
  3. Homo_Cul_Tu_Ral_Es Cooperative Enterprise - Promotion of the natural and cultural heritage of Amphipolis, Serres through trail marking, historiographic research, digital mapping of routes, and educational activities
  4. Modal: Public Heritage Lab - Awareness programme for children about forest and terrestrial ecosystems through foraging in Peleta, Arcadia, and Attica

IV. "Prevention and Promotion of Adult Health" (Donor: Social and Cultural Affairs Welfare Foundation -KIKPE)

  1. PARKINSON - Weekly therapeutic reading sessions to promote the mental health of Parkinson's disease patients in Attica, in collaboration with "Reading for Others" NPO.
  2. Hellenic Institute of Neurodegenerative Diseases - Physical exercise and nutrition intervention for adults over 50 aimed at healthy aging in Attica and Thessaloniki, in collaboration with the Hellenic National Center "Exercise is Medicine - Greece"

V. Combating Poverty and the Food Crisis (Donor: The Hellenic Initiative Canada)

  1. Career Sign NPO - Empowerment initiatives and development of professional skills for unemployed women or mothers/pregnant women in Attica.
  2. Traditional Handicrafts Association "Cut, Sew, Create" - Teaching traditional weaving techniques "kilimi" for women at risk of poverty in Patras to create branded handmade products 

VI. "Social Innovation in Small Coastal Local Communities" (Donor: Athina I. Martinou Foundation)

  1. Institute of Marine Research and Education – “Oceanides” - Interdisciplinary sailing expedition for research, marine literacy, and awareness on inclusion and marine protection in Kalymnos, Kos, Nisyros, Leros, and Patmos
  2. Kimolistes- Kimolos Volunteer Team - Activation of the local volunteer community of Kimolos to support the elderly through reading and recording cultural heritage elements in collaboration with "Reading for Others" NPO
  3. NPO "Adrachti" - Promotion of the cultural identity of the local communities of Menidi and Amfilochia through narrative art
  4. Cinemathesis NPO - Implementation of painting and cinema workshops in special schools in Lemnos for students with developmental disorders
  5. Openous NPO - Initiative to cultivate life skills and develop the mental resilience of teenage students on Aegean and Ionian islands.
  6. RESCUE GR - Training of citizens in coastal communities of Chalkidiki in first aid and basic life support
  7. Visit Agiasos - Providing counseling to women and youth to create and develop Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) initiatives in Lesvos, in collaboration with Kalotropio Cooperative Enterprise
  8. Porthmos - Cultural Actions Society - Interdisciplinary action to highlight the cultural and natural heritage of the island of Skyros

VII. "Sustainable Cities and Communities" (Donor: Helidoni Foundation)

  1. Citizens Association for the Preservation of Modern Cultural Heritage "Communitism" - Development of a platform for participatory mapping of disused buildings to mobilize groups and citizens in preserving the cultural heritage of Athens
  2. Cultural Association of Agrampela "Saint Demetrios" - Study for the restoration and reoperation of the old watermill to highlight the cultural heritage of the Kalavryta area, in collaboration with "Another Way" NPO
  3. Diversity United NPO - Creation of an app to evaluate dining and mass consumption spaces in Attica regarding the use of single-use plastics to promote good sustainable practices
