Τhe Neraida Floating Museum invites teachers at primary schools in the Athens 4th Primary School Directorate to declare their participation in the educational programme “Travelling with ‘Neraida’. A game on board”, at the Flisvos Marina, for the period October-December 2016.
The programme includes a number of team games and activities which will be conducted on the museum premises by specialized museum educators. In the course of the programme children will explore the historic ferries of the Saronic Gulf islands, will become familiar with aspects of Greek international shipping and coastal shipping in the 20th century and will investigate various topics such as travelling and the sea, communication and transport, people and memories.
Participation in the educational program is free. The cost of the training program, educational material and pupils’ transport will be covered entirely by the Neraida Floating Museum.
Useful information:
The visits are aimed at groups of pupils between 8 and 12 years of age (3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes) and will be held every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and at 11:30 a.m. The educational programme lasts about an hour and a half. School reservations will be accepted in order of priority.
The maximum number per group is 25 children.
The programme takes place on board the ship, which also comprises the exhibition space. The ship is docked at the Flisvos Marina, near the Park of Maritime Tradition.
During the visits, children may have with them water and a snack. Accompanying teachers have exclusive responsibility for the pupils that are with them and are to be present for the entirety of the programme period.
The private-law entity “Neraida Floating Museum” was founded in 2012 with funding from the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation to highlight the history of the passenger ferry “Neraida” and in general to institute activity related to the maritime history and the maritime traditions of Greece and to entrepreneurial history, attracting young people to the maritime profession and to protection of the marine environment. More information about the history and functioning of the Neraida Floating Museum is available here.
