Every year since 1983, the Fondation Latsis Internationale awards prizes, amounting to 25,000 Swiss Francs each, to up to 4 researchers under 40 years old. These prizes are awarded in order to recognise the scientific contribution of the awardees and encourage them to continue their research work.
This year, the prizes were awarded to: Prof. Emmanuel Alloa from the University of St. Gallen, Prof. Fabrizio Carbone from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and Dr. Jonathan Home from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.
Prof. Jared Diamond from the University of California was the guest of honour at this year’s event, and he gave a lecture entitled ‘What can we learn from the traditional societies’'.
