Public Call Results for the Funding of Scientific Projects in 2012

The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation announces today the 17 projects that have been selected for funding in 2012. This year as well, the response of the scientific community to the Foundation’s public call was remarkable. In total, 921 proposals were submitted, allocated per scientific field as follows:

1. Social Sciences and Humanities: 348 proposals
2. Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Information and Communication, Engineering, Universe and Earth sciences: 229 proposals
3. Life Sciences: 344 proposals

 The proposals’ evaluation by the Program’s Scientific Committee proved to be a particularly difficult procedure, due to the number as well as the quality of the proposals sumbitted. The Committee recommended its final selection to the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation’s Executive Board and it was resolved to fund 17 proposals that combine scientific quality, innovativeness and methodology of each project, research experience of the team members, participation of young researchers and dissemination potential of the end-product. The 17 proposals cover a wide spectrum of scientific fields and involve roughly 70 scientists and researchers from 30 academic foundations and research centres in Greece and abroad.
