Science and Technology Initiatives

The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation continued its collaboration with the Hellenic Institute of Advanced Studies (HIAS), supporting a series of initiatives designed and implemented by the organisation in July 2023. The aforementioned initiatives included: the 2nd Annual Symposium entitled “Bridges in Education, Science, and Innovation”, that was held at the Eugenides Foundation with the participation of top researchers and distinguished scientists from Greece and the diaspora, who discussed on the promotion of research and innovation, the three-day summer school on Artificial Intelligence entitled “Universal Artificial Intelligence” held at the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” aimed at introducing undergraduate students from all scientific disciplines to Artificial Intelligence, as well as the specialised workshop entitled “AI Frontiers and Interfaces” held at the Eugenides Foundation, addressed at young researchers interested in exploring the potential and applications of AI in different fields. The aim of these activities was to create a meeting point between science and society, to foster networking and collaboration between the academic and research community in Greece and the diaspora, and to promote research, innovation and entrepreneurship in Greece.

  • 200 people attended the 2nd Annual Symposium, which was structured in 4 sections: Bridges in Education and Research, Decarbonisation, Artificial Intelligence, and Bridges in Innovation.
  • 400 students attended the three-day “Universal AI” summer school.
  • The workshop covered 4 cutting-edge areas: AI for Vision, Foundational AI, AI for Health, and AI for Science.

“The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation’s contribution was essential not only because it covered the operational expenses of the Symposium and other events, but also because it showcased the willingness of a distinguished Foundation to support the challenging work of HIAS. It is of great importance for Greek scientists in the diaspora, as well as for young Greek scientists, to witness the commitment of Greek public benefit foundations in building bridges of cooperation.”
