The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation welcomes proposals for original studies with annual duration for the year 2010, that will address issues in the following thematic areas:

The Human Mind and its Complexity
Cultures and Cultural Production
The Study of the Human Past
Applied Science:
Computer Science and Informatics
Products and Process Engineering
Geosciences
Life Sciences:
Diagnostic Tools, Therapies and Public Health
Evolutionary, Population and Environmental Biology
Applied Life Sciences and Biotechnology

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The proposal should be submitted by a team of scholars with a lead coordinator.
The proposal should not be part of a doctoral thesis or a postgraduate thesis and generally not be purely a research project.
The proposal should not be part of a research project funded by another body.
The studies will be carried out within max. twelve months since the date of announcements of results.
FUNDING
The funding of each study will be based on a detailed budget to be submitted with the rest of the required documents. The maximum available funding for each study amounts to twelve thousand euros (€12,000), including all kinds of charges such as deductions, taxes, etc.
EVALUATION - SELECTION
Proposals will be evaluated by a special Scientific Committee of the Foundation. The Foundation's Executive Board will consider the above-mentioned evaluation and will select at its discretion up to twenty (20) studies to be funded in 2010. The number of studies funded per scientific field will be determined during the evaluation process.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
The deadline for submission is 15 September 2009. Interested parties should submit their application through the online system – the system will get activated on September 2009.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS
The results will be announced by November, 16th 2009.
