The Alekos Fassianos Non-Profit Organisation was established with the mission of collecting, studying, digitising, and promoting the work of Alekos Fassianos both in Greece and abroad. In this context, it has founded and now operates the Alekos Fassianos Museum in the area of Metaxourgeio, with the aim of utilising the spaces where Alekos Fassianos worked, organising exhibitions, and implementing educational and social programmes. The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation supported the implementation of the Museum’s educational programmes, which offer participants the opportunity to engage with the life, work, and personality of Alekos Fassianos in an experiential way, explore the Museum, and connect with the context in which the artist’s works were created. As part of these programmes, children are invited to solve puzzles, collaborate on group projects inspired by Fassianos’ materials, forms, and colors, and curate their own art exhibition, with the goal of discovering their talents and developing skills such as creativity, imagination, and teamwork. The three educational programmes available cater to a wide age range (5-13 years), while additionally, the museumkit “My neighbourhood’s myth”, a comprehensive standalone educational kit, “travels” to schools across the country to present the Museum’s history and collection in an original and interactive way. The educational material in the museumkit can be integrated into or complement the existing Primary school curriculum within the framework of the “Caring for the Environment” section of the Skills Labs (Areas: Ecology, World and Local Natural Heritage, World and Local Cultural Heritage).
A total of 971 children participated in the Museum’s educational programmes between October 2023 and January 2024.
“Our innovative educational programmes are designed to be inclusive, stimulating children’s imagination and helping them develop social and artistic skills. The children engage with the bright colours of Alekos Fassianos and connect with his figures, mythological heroes, plants, and animals in the ‘Fassianos universe’[MT1] . Alekos Fassianos, an inexhaustible source of inspiration, was himself an eternal child and would often say, ‘pity those who lose their childhood’. Having this in mind, we seek to nurture that childlike spirit and share a little more inspiration and culture with children through his art and legacy. By offering these programmes on Saturdays, we provide more opportunities for participation, even to children outside of Athens. We are also encouraged by the fact that parents prioritize their children's involvement in Museum activities.”

“An excellent approach, rich content, and an alternative way for children to engage with Art! The tour was perfect, as the students themselves described it: inventive, engaging, participatory, and at the same time educational! The children learned, reflected, and made decisions.”

“Congratulations on your programmes. I am the mother of a boy who took part in the ‘City becomes a theatre’ workshop, and it was the first time I saw my child so excited after an educational visit. Thank you for being there in these dystopian times for culture and education.”
